Role Description / Summary

The Buyer is responsible for purchasing and negotiating materials, equipment and supplies from suppliers. Evaluates vendor quotes and services to determine most desirable suppliers. Familiar with a variety of the field’s concepts, practices, and procedures.  Performs a variety of complex tasks in the procurement of materials and services.

Major Responsibilities

  • Assists in the negotiation of best price, delivery, terms of payment, and purchase conditions.
  • Makes comparative analyses of price and delivery conditions, availability and quality of material and new sources of supply.
  • Reviews requisitions, confers with suppliers to obtain product or service information such as price, availability, and delivery schedule.
  • Provides accurate dates to meet respective manufacturing operations.
  • Convert MRP requirements to purchase orders
  • Processes purchase orders in ERP system and send a copy to supplier.
  • Manage open purchase orders for on-time deliveries
  • Coordinates as appropriate, quality matters and engineering changes/developments between company activities and suppliers.
  • Discusses defective or unacceptable goods with inspection or quality control personnel, users, suppliers and others to determine source of trouble and seeks corrective actions.
  • Lead effort to resolve quality issues of purchased items.  Coordinate return of material to supplier if appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate ERP system data for planning materials. This includes lead times, safety stocks and order policies.
  • Utilizes MRP to drive product requirements.
  • Performs analysis on supplier and inventory performance metrics. These include stock outs, delivery performance, quality analysis and inventory turns.

Qualifications / Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Minimum 1 year of related experience and/or training
  • Must possess solid negotiating skills.
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with both internal staff as well as with suppliers.
  • Strong written and oral communications skills.

Operations Details

This is a full-time position.  Work schedule is 40 + hours per week.

Compensation

Compensation is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
